Derivation of the Langevin equation
from the principle of detailed balance

Stat. Mech. (2010) P07022

Written in a style more suited to pragmatic physicists than to rigorous statisticians, this paper manages to reach the fluctuation-dissipation results in a framework sufficiently general to include curvilinear coordinates and variable-dependent "friction" coefficients.

As an example, these results are used to evaluate the appropriate Langevin terms for the generalized (Kramer & Watts-Tobin) time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations, which are cast in a form that explicitly permits to follow the evolution of the order parameter.

The results in this paper were used in J. Phys: Condens. Matter 23 (2011) 225701 to fit the supercurrents in aluminum rings as functions of the magnetic flux.
